New Board Elected for WLCU NSW in 2020
World Lebanese Cultural Union of Sydney Inc officially adopted international WLCU constitution and in return has been acknowledged as the official branch of the international body.
EG Property Group’s Founder and Managing Director, Dr Shane Geha was officially elected as President of WLCU Sydney. Mr Pierre Chami was elected as Vice President, Mr Richard Melki as the Treasurer and Petronella Fakhry as the Secretary. The following Board members were also elected Hassan Sakr, Laudy Farah-Ayoub and George Bousamra.
World President of the WLCU, Mr Stephen Stanton congratulated the new committee and acknowledged each member as Lebanese and proud to be a part of this organisation. As Australians we are lucky to practice in a country that nurtures and encourages our work and culture.
As President, Dr Shane Geha expressed how proud he is of the Committee serving with him and envisages great things during his presidency. As President, he will organise two functions over the next 12 months showcase the best of Lebanese culture in food and in history. More importantly with the money we raise from these functions, will be sent to send to the genuinely needy in Lebanon.
Mr Stanton reminded the members about the Lebanese culture and the legacy that we as Lebanese in the diaspora have, although modern Lebanon is currently ravaged with economic hardship, we have a wonderful heritage to be proud of.
WLCU is an independent non-government organisation registered by the United Nationals. It was established in 1959 to ensure the preservation and the enhancement of the collective contributions made by the people of Lebanon. Their aim is to enhance, promote and foster the spirit of cultural pride, integration and allegiance of the Lebanese people throughout the Diaspora to their host nation.
The WLCU is a worldwide organisation with branches in Africa, Europe, North America, Latin America and South East Asia. They will support Lebanon’s pursuit of world peace and the attainment of peaceful co-existence to for the citizens of Lebanon and within the world.
Within Australia, The WLCU will reach out to those who contribute to culture in every way including literature, poetry, theatre, culinary, fashion, music and cultural activities.
